PDP crisis update: Sheriff gains control of party’s national secretariat

13 June 2016, 15:53

Abuja - The embattled former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has finally gained access to the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, reports Premium Times.

Sheriff gained entry into the Wadata Plaza complex at about 1:20pm, minutes after the detachment of policemen stationed in and around the building were withdrawn on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase.

News24 had reported that the police had prevented Sheriff from gaining entrance into the secretariat.

The police later sealed the secretariat.

Sheriff left the secretariat and reportedly went to see Arase.

He then returned to secretariat at around noon, but police officers insisted they would only allow him to enter the secretariat if his supporters dispersed from the area.

Sheriff tactically left the secretariat at about 12:25 pm and returned about 50 minutes after his supporters had dispersed.

Sheriff told reporters that he was resuming duties based on a court order.
