PDP crisis widens as NWC, BoT disagree over meeting date

10 February 2016, 14:30

Abuja - The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shows no sign of abating, reports Daily Trust

The latest crisis is over the dates the party leadership should meet to discuss the issue of the party’s chairmanship position.

The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Working Committee (NWC) have failed to agree on the new date fixed for discussion on how to fill the vacant chairmanship position.

The NWC had in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, announced the postponement the BoT, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Caucus meetings earlier slated for Tuesday and Wednesday by one week.

Metuh said the shift was necessitated following requests from critical stakeholders and leaders of the party.

But the secretary of the PDP BOT, Senator Walid Jibrin, in a swift reaction, said the BOT will not shift its meeting to next week as announced by the NWC of the party.

He said the BOT meeting which had earlier been scheduled to hold on Wednesday, February 10, would hold as scheduled at the Nicon Hotel and Towers.

Jibrin said he was not contacted before the shift in the date of the meeting was announced.
