PDP denies selling ‘Jonathan’s rice’

30 December 2015, 14:50

Benin City - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo has denied media report that a governorship aspirant in the party diverted rice meant for the state by the campaign organisation of former president Goodluck Jonathan, reports The Nation.

The report had alleged that the unnamed PDP governorship aspirant super-imposed his own picture on that of former president Jonathan and shared the rice to his supporters as Christmas gifts.

The party described the report as not only false and misleading, but also sponsored and fabricated to smear the image of the party in the state.

A statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, said the rice allotted to the state by Jonathan’s former campaign organisation was sent to the party’s state secretariat and not to the governorship aspirant’s home.

He noted that the all campaign materials during the 2015 general elections were distributed to all members of the party.
