PDP fixes August 17 for its national convention

Abuja -  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has fixed August 17, 2016 for its national convention to elect new officers that would take over from the Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee of the party, reports Vanguard.

The disclosure was made by Makarfi on Thursday at the end of  the expanded caucus meeting of the party held at Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

The expanded caucus comprise state governors, members of the party’s Board of Trustees, the party’s principal officers in the National Assembly and other stakeholders.

Speaking after the meeting on Thursday, Makarfi told newsmen that the meeting agreed to take the convention back to Port Harcourt while the chairmanship should be made open to all states in the South.

Makarfi according to Channels TV said the party would soon name a committee to work out a new zoning arrangement for national offices.

He assured members of a peaceful resolution of the party’s leadership crisis within the next two weeks.
