PDP insists on holding party convention

20 May 2016, 11:48

Abuja -  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted on going ahead with its National Convention in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Saturday as planned, reports The Guardian

The party said all arrangements for the event were already in place.

The party insisted that no court order had stopped the ‎conduct of the convention.

PDP National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, who disclosed this on Thursday, said the court order only stopped the election of some national officers but did not stop the convention.

Sheriff, speaking through his media assistant, Innua Bwala, noted that are other items in the agenda of the convention apart from election of party officers

Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had last Tuesday said the event would hold as scheduled,

He noted that any shift in date might amount to not having a National Working Committee (NWC) in place, a situation he termed dangerous.

According to Thisday, Wike said the suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos was filed by an imposter and that the National Chairman of the party had written to the court informing it of the fraud.

Wike said as chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee,  he had not been served any such order.
