PDP may appoint Jimi Agbaje as compromise National Chairman

01 August 2016, 19:08

Abuja - Indications have emerged that chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are pushing for the emergence of a former governorship candidate of the party in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje as the party’s new national Chairman, reports Thisday.

The party leaders decided to settle for Agbaje due to the respect he commands in the society and the absence of corruption cases hanging over his head, which the field of other PDP contestants do not possess.

Other contestants angling for the post include former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel; Chairman of DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi; and a former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, reports News 24.

Party sources said the decision to push forward Agbaje stemmed from the need to present a neutral leadership that has not been tainted by the leadership tussle in the last few months.

The party’s convention to elect new officers for the party is scheduled to hold on August 17.

It is however not clear whether the exercise will hold following last Thursday;s ruling of a federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the appointment of the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee.
