PDP threatens to sue Sokoto SIEC over LG elections

04 January 2016, 17:05

Sokoto -  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has threatened drag the Sokoto Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to court if fails to announce a new date for the postponed local government elections in the state, reports Leadership.

The threat was handed down on Sunday by the state Secretary of PDP, Kabiru Aliyu.

The elections were scheduled to hold on September 1, 2015 but was postponed to January 9, 2016

The exercise was again postponed on Thursday due to logistic problems.

Aliyu alleged that SIEC in its deliberate effort to dance to the tune of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had wanted to conduct the election without using the card reader.

He noted that the party also kicked against the decision of SIEC not to announce results in collation centres, saying it was ploy to simply to pave the way for the APC to perpetuate their rigging plot.

He also berated the state government for not making any categorical statement on the development, saying, it simply connotes nothing but compromise.

He said the party is giving the commission a two-week ultimatum to announce a new date for the polls.
