PDP vows to resist attempts by APC to rig Akwa Ibom re-run polls

06 November 2015, 14:31

Uyo - Elders and major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have vowed to resist attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the rerun governorship election in the state, reports Vanguard.

The elders noted that the APC was desperate to forcefully take over the state and Rivers State.

Senator Anietie Okon, who spoke on behalf of the group in Uyo, was reacting to comments credited to Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha that Rivers and Akwa Ibom states are very strategic to APC.

The elders said Okorocha’s statement meant that APC was planning to subvert the collective will of the Rivers and Akwa Ibom people, warning that any attempt to engage in any form of illegality during the rerun election would be resisted.

It would be recalled that the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had ordered a rerun in 18 out of the 32 local governments in the state.
