PDP wants probe of Buhari’s election funding

14 December 2015, 16:26

Abuja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to launch a probe into how his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), funded its presidential campaigns during the 2015 general elections, reports New Telegraph.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Sunday, said the probe of the presidential campaign funding would unearth how much the APC-controlled states contributed to the funding of the campaign that brought Buhari to power.

PDP’s statement was in reaction to the ongoing probe of the procurement of weapons for the Armed Forces during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the number of PDP bigwigs that had been arrested in connection with the $2.1bn alleged arm scam.

Those arrested include the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki and Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda.

Metuh urged Buhari to be courageous enough by not limiting the probe to those opposed to his government and the APC.

He, however, called on the Buhari administration to begin the prosecution of those who had been found culpable of corrupt practices, adding that as a party, the PDP would not support corrupt practices under any guise.
