PDP welcomes the cancellation of election results in Bayelsa

08 December 2015, 13:09

Abuja - The People Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said it is pleased with the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the results of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in last Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State, reports New Telegraph.

The party accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of massively rigging the election in the area.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, commended the courage of the people of Bayelsa State in fearlessly curtailing APC’s rigging machinery, which led to the cancellation of the results.

He noted that if not for the bravery of Bayelsans in standing up for their votes against the hordes of harassments by the military and other security forces allegedly working for the All Progressives Congress (APC), their will as a people would have been completely subverted in the election.

INEC had on Monday cancelled the results in the Southern Ijaw LGA, citing election irregularities.
