Rivers poll hopeful's office destroyed

Abuja - Alleged gunmen have reportedly attacked the senatorial liaison office of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Rivers South East Senatorial District elections, Magnus Abe.

Parry Saroh Benson, spokesperson to Abe, alleged the attack was carried out on Monday by some thugs dressed in military attire.

Abe said the alleged arsonists carried sophisticated weapons as they threw dynamite and bombs into the senatorial office.

It is reported staff had to run for cover owing to the attack.

Comment could not be obtained from police.

The reported incident is the latest in a series of skirmishes that have rocked the state in recent months.

Ahead of the polls set for next month, the Rivers State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) urged political parties to denounce violence.

The IPAC Chairman, Felix Obuah, further called on the police and other security agencies as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission

(INEC) to take proactive steps ensure peace.
