Rivers rerun: Court verdict widens APC, PDP rift

07 December 2016, 07:04

Abuja – The tensions between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State have widened following differing interpretations of the ruling on the forthcoming poll in Tai.

APC Rivers chapter said at no time did Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court sitting Port Harcourt nullify and/or ordered for a rerun election in Tai.

The party said Justice Liman’s order for the conclusion of the Tai rerun was in tandem with the position already announced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would conduct elections in some wards and units in Tai on Saturday.

APC pointed out polls would not be held in all wards and units.

“It baffles the mind when members of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, deliberately dispense blatant falsehood especially to the gullible on social media to the effect that the High Court judge ordered a fresh rerun election in Tai,” said APC Rivers spokesman, Chris Finebone.

“The reference to a specific directive by the Justice for INEC to declare results based on the results filed from the field on December 10 as being bandied is as shady as it is spurious.”

Finebone reiterated APC believed the judgment did not differ with position already taken by INEC to conduct rerun elections in some outstanding units and wards in Tai.

“It is too bad but not surprising that members of the PDP prefer to always live in denial by deceiving themselves.”

Tai is among areas where violence scuttled the holding of polls in the restive Rivers State south of the country.
