Sheriff insists Makarfi must go

29 August 2016, 17:34

Abuja -  Factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff has insisted that the Ahmed Makarfi –led Caretaker Committee of the party must be disbanded for peace to rein in the party.

Sheriff said he would continue to run a parallel organ of the party if the committee is not disbanded.

A former member of the House of Representatives quoted Sheriff as making the declaration at different occasions.

The chieftain told Vanguard that at separate meetings with the governors and the Board of Trustees chairman, held in the last two days, Sheriff reiterated his demands, which included the dissolution of the Makarfi-led caretaker committee and the composition of a new committee made up of his nominees and others to conduct a fresh convention for the party.

The PDP has been experiencing a leadership crisis since it attempted to remove Sheriff from the position of hairman on May 21.
