Abuja - The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff is plotting a civilian coup against the leaders of the party.
Sheriff, whose emergence as party's Chairman was met with stiff opposition from several party members, is planning to either remain in office or make sure that the office of the National Chairman is zoned to the North-east in order to enable him retain the seat.
He has ignored the directive given to him and the members of the National Working Committee by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The NEC, at its last meeting on March 7, asked Sheriff to set up a committee that would determine the zoning formula to be adopted by the party as it prepares for its national convention slated for May 21 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
However, instead of setting up these committees, the Sheriff-led NWC has begun moves to either prolong the members’ stay in office or predetermine the works of the committees, especially the one on zoning.
Sheriff has also visited Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, who he hopes will assist him to hold on to power.
