Sokoto - The Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has postponed the local government elections earlier scheduled to hold on January 9, 2016, reports The Nation
The Chairman of SIEC, Usman Abubakar, made the disclosure during a briefing with journalists in Sokoto on Wednesday.

He noted that the commission resolved to postpone the election following lack of card readers to conduct the exercise.
Abubakar pointed out that SIEC could not go ahead with the polls, as staff had not been trained on the use of the card readers.
He noted that, though,there is no constitutional provision mandating the electoral body to use the card reader, the commission find it worthy of use to avoid rigging and other malpractices.
