S’West PDP rejects national chairmanship

18 March 2016, 14:11

Abuja - Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-west zone have rejected calls that the zone should produce the next National Chairman of the party.

Rather, the leaders said they support the retention of the party chairmanship seat in the North.

This was one of the points contained in a position paper submitted by PDP leaders from the zone to the National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, during a solidarity visit on Thursday.

In the position paper, leaders of the party from the South-west said the position of the National Chairman should not be zoned to the South, adding that their reason for insisting that the North retain the position is to help strengthen the party in the zone.

The report was signed by Sen. Buruji Kashamu, Sen. Teslim Folarin, the chairmen of the party in the six South-west states and 30 others.

The group was led by the South-west National Vice-Chairman, Makanjuola Ogundipe.

They also endorsed Kashamu as the leader of the party in the zone.
