Tinubu, Atiku, Makarfi team up against Buhari

04 December 2016, 10:03

Abuja - All is now set for the proposed mega opposition party in the country

Promoters of the new party have set before the end of March for the formation of the party.

The promoters are wooing politicians across the nation

Those participating in the formation of the new mega party included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, reports Punch.

Others are leaders of Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party and  some aggrieved chieftains of the APC.

Besides the plan to form a new mega party, those involved in the talks were also considering adopting any of the existing political parties as their platform.

Quoting an unnamed chieftain of PDP, the paper said with what happened in Ondo governorship election,  it had become obvious that the Muhammadu Buhari administration was not ready to relinquish power despite the fact that it had no solution to the economic recession in  the country.

Gov Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti is believed to be negotiating with Tinubu and Atiku on behalf of the Makarfi faction.

Besides Tinubu and Atiku, other prominent politicians being targeted by the Makarfi faction include a former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankanso; the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and an ex-governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Findings showed that those involved in the talks were aware of the Federal Government’s plot to thwart the groups’ plan to form a new mega party, informing the plan of the groups to adopt any of the existing parties and uplift it to a mega status.

However, both the Tinubu and Atiku's camps have denied plans to form a mega party.

Special Adviser to Tinubu, Tunde Rahman, said he was not aware of the plan to form a mega party.

On his part, the media aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, dismissed insinuations that his principal was considering dumping the APC.
