Tribunal fails to stop Bello’s inauguration

26 January 2016, 16:14

Lokoja - The Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lokoja has struck out two suits seeking to stop the inauguration of Yahaya Bello as the governor of the state on January 27, reports Vanguard.

The suits were filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).

The tribunal Chairman, Justice Halima S. Mohammed in her ruling on Monday dismissed the motion, noting that the prayers were not contained in the original petitions brought by the plaintiffs involved.

She said that if the tribunal granted the motions filed by the two parties, it would definitely affect the original case before the court.

The tribunal also dismissed the motion filed by Ruben Egwuaba, the counsel to Labour Party, seeking to stop the inauguration of Yahaya Bello on the ground that he has no deputy as at the period of the supplementary election of December 5, 2015.
