Victorious Okowa urged to embrace opposition

12 February 2016, 16:08Augustine Osayande

Abuja - Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State to reach out to his opponents following the affirmation of his electoral victory by the Supreme Court.

Okowa enjoined Ishaku to work together with them to enhance development in the state.

“I have been there and can attest to the level of distraction a Governor and his administration encounters on account of some needless litigations but a calm disposition and open-mindedness towards all, including your opponents, is what defines a true leader,” Okowa said in his congratulatory note.

Okowa spoke from experience.

The Supreme Court endorsed his victory last month after months of challenges by the All Progressives Congress.

He nonetheless urged the Taraba State Governor to pursue policies that would define him as a good ambassador of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) considering that most of the states around him are being controlled by the ruling All Progress Congress (APC).
