Violence erupts at APC national secretariat

30 November 2015, 17:16

Abuja - The crisis created by the death of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Kogi State governorship election, Abubakar Audu, seems to be growing fast.

Supporters of Audu’s running mate in the November 21 election, James Faleke, on Monday clashed with those loyal to Yahaya Bello at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, reports Vanguard.

Both Faleke and Bello have entrenched interest in the supplementary election and are jostling to replace Audu.

While Bello, who came second in the primary election that produced Audu as the party’s candidate is rumoured to have been endorsed by the party for the replacement, Faleke, is asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC to declare him both the standard candidate and Governor-Elect.

A meeting called by party leaders to resolve the matter was almost marred as supporters of Faleke and Bello stormed the party secretariat.

Chanting the names of the contenders respectively to show their preference, the supporters later clashed.

It took the effort of security agents, who chase the restive supporters away, before normalcy was restored.
