WATCH: APC, PDP protests turn bloody in Port Harcourt

18 November 2016, 11:36

Port Harcourt - A bloody clash between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters was averted by the police on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Supporters of both parties had stormed the streets to express their grievances over different matters, reports Channels TV

While the APC is aggrieved that two of their elected members in the state House of Assembly are yet to be sworn in, the supporters of the PDP claim they were out to register their support for the leadership of the House and the government of Rivers State.

The APC members who came out in their numbers caused a traffic jam along Azikiwe road in the Rivers State capital.

On sighting the APC members of the streets, some PDP supporters also mobilised to storm the House of Assembly to counter the APC members.

Policemen were quickly deployed around the Government House along Azikiwe Road down towards the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office and the State High Court.

To avoid a possible confrontation between PDP members who were already around the House of Assembly and the approaching APC supporters, the police fired tear-gas canisters to disperse them and in the process injured several persons.
