Akwa Ibom expands e-library scheme

07 March 2014, 07:38Augustine Osayande

Abuja – Akwa Ibom State has announced plans to expand the e-library projects of the state to three sub- sectors in the three senatorial districts.

Clement Isong, the state’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Science and Technology, disclosed this at meeting of the College of Permanent Secretaries in Uyo.

“The Ministry has plans to expand the E- library projects to three sub- sectors in the three senatorial districts of the State to enable readers and users of the facilities outside the State capital have access to the E- library in Uyo which he said serves as a central point,” he said.

Isong also announced plans to upgrade the existing mobile internet unit in the ministry and the procurement of additional units to ensure that the facility was available to school children especially those in rural communities.

The Permanent Secretary said the ministry’s Research and Development Laboratory, which has obtained accreditation from Federal Ministry of Environment at the Directorate of Petroleum Resources, was to be upgraded and positioned to obtain a working permit to commercialize its activities.

He added that the State Government is to host the 2014 edition of the National Council on Communication Technology.

“The state won the bid following the adoption of three of its articulated recommendations for implementation as a national policy by the council at the second meeting of the council held in Ondo,” said Isong.
