Google: Just how big is the giant?

07 February 2014, 15:25

Cape Town - Google is a gigantic internet company, but the California-based firm is not solely interested in its core business of search.

Google has built a portfolio of online products like Gmail and Maps, but the company has also expanded into robotics, artificial intelligence and technology products.

In an online video on YouTube, a user called ColdfusTion says he has not made a "tinfoil hat" video detailing Google's technological advances.

"Over the next decade we may see home automation from a conscious house; advanced intelligent robotics, and the global expansion of internet coverage," he says in the video.

The growth of Google services have come under scrutiny in both the US and the EU, and the company recently settled with European commissioners over its dominance of online search.

"But in 10 years, just how much will Google own? Their services may already account for 40% of all internet traffic," ColdfusTion says in the video in reference to the expansion of Google products, especially when one factors in the dominant position of Android on mobile devices.

The video though, applauds the progress that Google has brought to the Information Age, but asks the internet giant to remain open.

"The only thing I ask of you Google, is to just stay sincere."
