Innovators, developers to benefit from new IT lab

17 January 2014, 15:05Henry Ifeanyi

Lagos - Co-creation Hub, the country’s first open living lab and pre-incubation space, announced plans to formerly unveil a Mobile Experience Lab (MX Lab) at its headquarters in Lagos State.

The launch is set for Tuesday in Yaba.

Speaking on the development, Femi Longe, director of Programmes at the Hub, said that the lab will help innovators and developers to achieve their dreams.

“Over the past two years, CcHUB has worked with aspiring tech entrepreneurs who are finding interesting ways to address social issues in Nigeria in areas such as governance, education, trade, water, extractives and entertainment,” he said.

Longe noted  that it had become clear that once these tools were created, the next critical step towards scalability was to connect with end users especially in an environment where the vast majority is still not technology savvy.

“We created the Mobile Experience Lab from the necessity to bridge the gap between users and digital service providers in Nigeria. The aim of MX Lab is to enhance the quality of local digital solutions; improve customer satisfaction; and accelerate smart application of technology in solving problems in Nigeria,” he added.

Longe added that the Hub planned to achieve these through “Research, Usability and Evangelism.”

“The lab will generate, process and disseminate extensive knowledge and data to aid better understanding of the end-users by our community members. It will provide pre-launch usability testing with real users to help developers avoid poor user experience which can inherently ruin a product. Also, it will commit considerable resources to consistent messaging on the place of usability and user experience in technology development. We will sensitise and enlighten the community on the subject matter and its place in technology product development,” he said.

The CcHub is designed to be a multi-functional, multi-purpose space where work to catalyze creative social tech ventures take place.

In addition, the hub leads co-creation initiatives aimed at creating novel technologically driven solutions to the myriad social challenges facing the average Nigerian.
