Abuja - Stakeholders and experts in the information and communications technology sector in the region have converged in Lagos for the Mobile West Africa.
Organisers of the event said that international mobile expert, Tomi Ahonen, and a team of other local influential figures in the mobile industry were already in Lagos for the event.
Ahonen who is considered as one of the world's most influential expert in the mobile world is expected to share his wealth of experience on how to make money in mobile with participants at the event.
Former Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Ernest Ndukwe, will also deliver a keynote address at the event.
Ahonen and Ndukwe will be joined by senior industry pundits including the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, the Founder of SPARK and iROKO Partners, and representatives from Nokia, DSTV Digital Media, Nigerian Breweries, PZ Cussons and Praekelt.
Organisations such as Eskimi, VConnect, Co-Creation Hub, MTech, ConnectNigeria, SureGifts, and TomTom Africa are also expected at the event which is regarded as the leading technology event in West Africa.
Matthew Dawes, Managing Director, All Amber and Chief Organiser of the event said the forum would be a memorable one.
"I want MWA2014 to be a joyride – celebrating past successes, critically analysing the industry’s future direction and opportunities, and to again be the conference to come and do business at. Having the likes of Tomi Ahonen and Dr. Ndukwe confirmed signifies our intent to further cement the event’s position as the best in the region.”
Speaking further, he said, “When we first debuted Mobile West Africa way back in February 2011 it was a different era. West Africa’s smartphone penetration was low, Nigeria’s first incubation space (CcHUB) was yet to be launched, the eCommerce boom was still years away, and mobile money was far from reality.
"It has been a remarkable few years and I would hope that in some way the event has contributed to that growth."
