Abuja - The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has commissioned its Center for Software Engineering which is poised to enhance the growth of this industry in the West African country.
The centre, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was constructed with the support of the World Bank and Skye Bank.
Bamitale Omole, the Vice Chancellor of the university, said the centre's objective was to run cost-efficient software engineering programmes.
“The mission is to develop ICT to a level such that it will serve as backbone of the university’s development strategy in teaching, curriculum development, innovation, research, administration and service,”
Omole was hopeful the centre would facilitate collaborations between researchers and industries.
Praising the World Bank and Skye Bank for their involvement in the project, he encourage the private sector to invest in ICT development initiatives.
He said this would increase business productivity in Nigeria and enhance the quality of research.
Omole said OAU had over the years taken a lead to embrace technology.
