Reedemer University launches new ICT centre

03 December 2013, 14:53

Abuja - Redeemer University, one of the country’s leading private tertiary institutions, has commissioned an information technology resource centre for students and staff at the school.

Powered by renowned IT training institute, New Horizons, the university management said the centre would ensure that students and staff acquire basic IT skills.

The school management also said the centre would enable every student, irrespective of their academic discipline, to have a minimum of four international skills certifications at 90 percent subsidised rate before graduating from the university.

Management added that the centre would position them in the global software development industry, the cash-less economy, e-banking, e-medical/telemedicine, e-government, e-legal administration, oil and gas as well as the  telecoms sector with attendant employment and self employment opportunities.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the centre, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Debo Adeyewa, said he was elated by the partnership with New Horizon, which had resulted in the IT Resource Centre.

"The university is not only IT compliant, we are IT driven that is why we are collaborating with New Horizons. We have informed the parents that for a token their wards should participate in this professionals certifications to make them globally competitive in IT and business skills. Our prayer is that every student will use this IT resource centre to be certified including myself," he said.

Speaking at the event, Tim Akano, the chief executive officer of New Horizons Nigeria, said that staff of the university would be trained at the centre for free.

He noted that the newly commissioned IT resource centre will help students become global technology entrepreneurs.

"Our focus is to teach your students to build businesses and technology solutions. The students do not know the world they are going to enter; our job is to give them a future. Many of today’s richest executives who are determining the world’s economy were technology entrepreneurs who started their companies from their school dormitories," he added.
