Abuja - A London Stock Exchange-listed software firm pledged to enhance the safety of young learners on local roads.
Sage Group, the United Kingdom firm, said its local entity, Sage Software Nigeria, would implement such initiatives.
The latter recently visited Ireti Junior Grammar School in Ikoyi, Lagos to give the school children an instructional talk on road safety as well as to distribute stationery to them for their studies.
According to officials, the donation will benefit 1 000 children aged 10 to 13 years at the school.
“Sage has a big focus on community development and giving back to communities in the countries where we do business," said Damilola Ajibade, Business Development Manager at Sage Nigeria.
“We saw helping the children of Ireti Junior Grammar School to stay safe on the roads as a great way to make a contribution to the people of Lagos.”
Ajibade said having observed how the children endanger themselves trying to cross the roads in the busy Lagos traffic on their way to school, Sage Nigeria decided to create a road safety programme for them.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were invited to professionally guide the school children in this regard.
Most of the children at Ireti Junior Grammar School are from low-income families who might have difficulties affording the costs of educational resources for their children.
“The stationery donation will hopefully ease some of the cost burden for the families,” Ajibade said.
