Youth receive ICT training in Lagos

06 January 2014, 15:40Henry Ifeanyi

Lagos - The first phase of the Information technology training programme for some selected youth in the country has commenced in Lagos.

Global technology firm, Microsoft, is sponsoring the exercise which is held in partnership with Galaxy Backbone with the aim to create employment opportunities for young people through the Employable Skills Development Internship Programme (ESDIP).

The ESDIP programme is part of the Government-Wide Messaging and Collaboration (GWMC) project based on the Microsoft platform.

The ESDIP with GWMC will run until the end of the month with Microsoft aiming to place 75 percent of the interns with companies, especially the partner communities at the end of the programme.

Microsoft is expected to distribute over 500 Windows phones in support of the GWMC programme, while Integral Assets Limited will recruit and train the interns on behalf of Microsoft.

The interns would then be responsible for the distribution of these phones to their respective recipients.
