Lagos - Former Nigeria midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has told
News24 that Rabiu Ibrahim can turn out to be the long awaited heir to legendary
former Super Eagles midfielder, Austin Okocha but has warned against comparing
the both players.
Adepoju, who played for Nigeria for 12 years and played at
three World Cups, says Rabiu Ibrahim has shown similarities to Okocha in style
of play, but says it will be too early to start comparing both players.

“I don’t think we should be comparing both players at the
moment,” he told News24, “Jay Jay was a great talent and a legend for Nigeria
but Rabiu (Ibrahim) is just starting.
“He’s a great talent too, don’t get me wrong, but I think it
will be too early to start comparing him to Jay Jay.
“He has shown he has some similarities to Jay Jay and maybe
with time he will get there but I wouldn’t compare both players now,” he said.
The 44-year old Adepoju, also added that the 24-year old
Ibrahim should be allowed to mature into his own kind of player, as too much
comparison to ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha may put him under too much pressure.
“I think we should allow the boy to grow into the kind of
player he will be. Let’s not compare him to Jay Jay, else we put him under too
much pressure,” Adepoju added.
