Abuja - Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed satisfaction at the progress of construction work at the Ibom International Olympic Stadium.
He was confident contractors would deliver the project within the time line of September, 2014.
Accompanied on a tour by the chairman of the MRS Group, Sayiu Dantata, the chairman of Riden and Associates, Tedi Nwane, the managing director SO and U Associates, Udeme Ufot and the president of Azike Group, Erani Asiba, the governor also expressed his happiness that no accident had been recorded since the commencement of the project.
Nonetheless, Akpabio explained that the project was delayed due to time taken to manufacture and ship in the equipment meant for the hospital section of the project.
He said the state ministry of health will manage the hospital but through the international cooperators.
He said government was not only reviving the infrastructure in the state but was also enhancing the living standards of the people through the construction of the stadium, which has created job opportunities for the youths.
Dantata described the stadium project as first of its kind in the history of Nigeria while Ufot, an indigene of the state, said he was proud of Governor Akpabio’s development efforts.
Asiba said the Olympic Stadium in Uyo had truly redefined development and confidence on the leader of the state.
He said Akpabio had given the people what they needed and wished that the governor’s successor would build on the foundation laid by Akpabio.
