Amuneke remains confident of Eaglets

22 October 2015, 10:25

Abuja - Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke is remaining upbeat about their chances of retaining the FIFA U17 World Cup following their impressive start.

The Nigerian U17's, defending world U17 champions, started the competition with a 2-0 win over the USA, before smashing hosts Chile 5-1 in their second group game. And Amuneke is expressing confidence in himself and his team.

"I have always believed in myself and in my team; I believe in the players that I have and in what I’m doing", he said.

"I have constantly transmitted the same confidence into them so that they can have the same self –belief in their abilities in order to represent the country very well.

"We have told the players that it was a rare privilege for them to be picked to represent the country at this level.

"We have some good players in this team but what is important to me is how to see them play as a team and function effectively; we want to see them perform effectively when they have and they don’t have the ball and if they can be able to do this, our job is half done", Amuneke said with a tone of satisfaction.
