Madrid - The champions of Spain and Europe go head-to-head for the seventh time this season when Atletico Madrid host city rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg on Tuesday.

In their first competitive game since the Champions League final in Lisbon, a much less intense encounter also ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

James Rodriguez continued his World Cup form by opening the scoring for Real with his first goal for the club, but Raul Garcia's late equaliser handed Atletico a vital away goal.

Atletico inflicted Real's third defeat in four games with victory at the Bernabeu.

However, Diego Simeone's substitutes changed the game after the break and Arda Turan swept home the winner 14 minutes from time.

The greatest humiliation of all was to come for Real at the Vicente Calderon in February as they were outfought and outclassed as Atletico sealed their first league double in the Madrid derby since 1951.

Tiago and a stunning overhead kick from Saul Niguez gave the hosts a comfortable half-time advantage before Griezmann and Mandzukic sealed the rout after the break.
