Abuja - Bayelsa United Football Club of Yenagoa on Sunday beat visiting Enyimba International FC of Aba 1-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week 33 match.
Uche Ihuarulam scored the goal in the 18th minute from a free-kick in the match played at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
After the match, Enyimba's head coach, Salisu Yusuf, said his team played well but wasted many goalscoring chances.
"It was a good match. Both teams played very well. But we (Enyimba) had several chances, but failed to convert them.
"Bayelsa United had their chances and were able to convert one into goal. However, I am impressed with the performance of my team.
"It is a game we contested very well. It was a game of two top teams in the league, and that was why football was at its best," Yusuf said.
On his part, Bayelsa United’s head coach, Ladan Bosso, said his team prepared very well for the encounter, in view of their opponents’ strength.
"Enyimba are a strong club in the Nigerian football league. But we played very well, because we know the Enyimba team very well.
"So, I am not surprised that we won, because we did our homework to ensure our victory.
"The match was a classic between two good sides.
"However, we hope to consolidate on this all-important victory over Enyimba as we go into other matches.
"We are working hard and improving with every game, because our target for the season is the league trophy," Bosso said.
