Abuja - Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel and South Africa’s Anele Ngcongca are both to miss the Nelson Mandela challenge because of reported fitness issues.
Super Eagles coach Stepehen Keshi said Mikel will play no part in the game as he is ill.
“Mikel has been withdrawn from the squad. He has a stomach bug,” Keshi said.
Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said he requested Ngcongca to join the squad and to be assessed by the South African Football Association’s medical team, but his club side Genk allegedly refused.
“Anele Ngcongca will not play against Nigeria. Genk claim he is injured. It seems like a fabricated story,” Igesund said.
