Carlton Cole relieved to sign for Celtic

23 October 2015, 17:02

Edinburgh - Carlton Cole's transfer to Celtic is now in the bag and the former West Ham man has revealed that the passionate fans convinced him to join the club amid interest from other British teams.

The agreement between the ex-England international and Celtic is designed for 20 months, meaning he will remain on the books of the Scottish Premier League champions until June 30, 2017.

''Being a Celt is not about the money, it’s about wearing the shirt with pride. It was the same at West Ham, if you put on that shirt and wore it with pride, the fans would take to you,'' said Cole to Celtic's official website.

''I had a good rapport with the fans and that’s what I’m here for, as I can see the same sort of thing at Celtic.

''As soon as I came here everyone was explaining to me, even the taxi drivers, how much the club means to them, that’s what I wanted to hear and I want to hopefully be a hero to them.''

The 32-year-old started his career with Chelsea and had loan spells with Wolves, Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa.

For the remainder of the 2015 - 2016 campaign, Cole will be sporting the number 24 top.
