Abuja - The U-17 national team, Golden Eaglets on Wednesday arrived in Marakech, Morocco for the 10th U-17 Africa Youth Championship (AYC) billed for April 13 to April 27.
This is contained a statement signed by the team's Media Officer, Morakinyo Abodunrin on Wednesday in Abuja.
It said that the team arrived Aeroport Mohammed V in Casablanca and were transported to Marrakech.
"The Nigerian contingent, led by the Director of Competition, Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Mohammed Sanusi, landed in Casablanca aboard a Royal Air Maroc at 9:25 a.m. local time (10:25 a.m. in Nigeria).
"The team was later conveyed in a bus to Marrakech in a journey that lasted for about three hours.
"The team is lodged at Ryad Mogador Menara, Marrakech in the heart of the city, which used to be the capital of Morocco," the statement read.
It further quoted the team's coach, Manu Garba as saying that training ahead of the upcoming matches will begin in earnest.
NAN reports that the Golden Eaglets are drawn in Group B with Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire and Congo Brazaville.
The competition opens on Saturday afternoon with host Morocco taking on Gabon at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Tunisia will take on championship debut, Botswana immediately after.
The Golden Eaglets will take on Ghana in Marrakech in its first match on Sunday evening after Cote d’Ivoire and Congo-Brazzaville would have opened the Group B game earlier.
The Eaglets would also play Cote d’Ivoire on April 17 and Congo-Brazzaville on April 20 in the last group match.
