Abuja - El Kanemi Warriors and Kano Pillars recorded home wins over Lobi Stars and FC Taraba respectively in the Week 6 double-header of the Glo Premier League played at the Kano Pillars Stadium on Sunday.
In the first of the two games played at the Pyramid City, El Kanemi, whose home games have been moved from Maiduguri to Kano, scored in either half to subject short passing Lobi Stars to a 2-0 loss away from home.
Obioma Arinze opened scoring for the El Kanemi in the 42nd minute after making a tricky turnaround to beat Terkaa Melai who manned the post for the Suswam Boys.
On resumption of the second half, Lobi’s best chance of the game fell to Nanen Imenger. But the Nigeria international made a mess of the sitter presented from the box with a criminal miss.
The miss came back to haunt Lobi Stars as Emmanuel Ajia scored a minute away from the hour-mark to seal the win for the Borno State-owned club.
In the second game of the double header, Kano Pillars recorded a 3-1 win over newly-promoted FC Taraba.
Nigeria international Ezekiel Mba opened scoring for Pillars with a rasping shot from outside the box in the 25th minute of the game. Mohammed Gambo thought he had increased Pillars lead in the 38th minute, but the goal was wrongly cancelled by the referee.
He hosts continued to dominate the defence of the visitors in search of a goal to cushion the scores, and they were duly rewarded in the 54th minute when Gambo finally found the back of the net.
The scoreline may have been different if Bobby Abel had buried any of the chances created by the visitors, but nevertheless Esom Tochukwu pulled a goal back for Taraba in the 58th minute, and the visitors continued to press for an equalizer which never came as Pillars scored late to extend their lead.
