England call-up delights Dele Alli

02 October 2015, 11:09

Lagos - Nigeria have finally missed out on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Dele Alli, after the 19-year old was called up to the senior England squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Lithuania and Estonia.

The midfielder is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father, but will not be playing for the Super Eagles, after he was listed by the England manager, Roy Hodgson for the England senior squad.

Alli has previously represented England at junior and youth levels, but remained eligible for Nigeria and there were expectations he would choose the Super Eagles over the Three Lions, but reacting to his inclusion to the England squad, the 19-year old expressed delight to have been called up.

"Also I would like to say thank you for all the messages! I am delighted to have been called up for the England senior team," the youngster tweeted.

It makes two, the number of Anglo-Nigerian players to have chosen England over Nigeria in recent weeks, as Liverpool forward Jordon Ibe also stated his preference for the Three Lions over the Super Eagles.
