FC Abuja defeats Ranchers Bees

04 April 2013, 07:31

Abuja, April 3, 2013 (NAN) FC Abuja on Wednesday defeated Ranchers Bees 1-0 in a week 15 match of the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The match, which was played at the Old Parade Ground Sports Complex, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, saw Bartholomew Kintu score the only goal of the match through a powerful header in the 66th minute.

Ranchers Bees fought hard till the end of the game to get an equaliser to no avail.

The caretaker coach of FC Abuja, Usman Ilerika, who spoke to newsmen after the game, expressed mixed feelings about the hard-earned victory.

"Well, I am a bit happy but the most important thing is how we are going to improve this team because we are still in the relegation zone.

"I just want a situation whereby things can get a little better for us because at the moment, the position we find ourselves is a bit difficult. But we are going to try our best.

"The league still has 15 matches left to go; however, it is a sign of good things to come. We hope we can build on this victory," he said.

Taiwo Yusuf, the Head Coach of Ranchers Bees of Kaduna, said ``it was a good match; the officiating was excellent.

"My boys played more of defensive game; it was not until they conceded the lone goal that they had to come out. However, it was a little too late.

"I want you all to understand that this is a new team; the players have been together for less than five months. Most of our players left for greener pastures at the end of last season.

"By the grace of God, in the second round of the league, you all will see a new Ranchers Bees team," he said.

In the other NNL Week 15 matches played today, Taraba Utd defeated Teaf FC 2-0; Abia Warriors beat Crown FC 2-0; Adamawa Utd defeated DSS 1-0 and Mighty Jets beat Sokoto Utd 1-0.
