Jos - The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) on Thursday okayed the artificial turf of the Jos multi-billion naira stadium and awarded Plateau a 2nd Star Standard Certificate.
Mr Moroizke Heinz, the FIFA Representative, who made the pronouncement in Jos, presented the certificate to Gov. Jonah Jang, who was on an inspection tour of the stadium, still under construction.
Heinz said: "FIFA issued this certificate to Plateau State after inspecting the turf of this stadium and certified it fit for international football competitions.
"By this certification, Jos Stadium is the first and the only one in Nigeria with such a 2nd Star Standard artificial turf.''
Heinz congratulated the people and Gof Plateau for the award and for building a world class and international standard stadium.
Responding, Jang expressed happiness with the award, saying that part of the policies of his administration was complete all abandoned projects in the state.
He said: "This stadium is one of the abandoned projects which we are determined to ensure that its completion.
"We are determined to host the National Sports Festival in 2014 and hope to finish the stadium as soon as possible to enable us to get the hosting right."
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that N5 billion had been earmarked for the completion of the stadium in this year's budget as against N1.5 billion in 2012.
