Fatusi tasks football academies on talent discovery

09 October 2013, 18:31

Lagos - Teslim Fatusi, a member of the Atlanta ‘96 Olympic team, on Wednesday tasked proprietors of football academies to take advantage of the enormous talents at the grassroots, to enhance the sport.

Fatusi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that football academies had contributed positively to the growth of the sport, over the years.

He noted that some of the players that had represented the country at international competitions in the past were discovered from various academies in the country.

"This country is blessed with abundant talents in football. The owners of football academies are expected to tap these budding talents for future purposes.

"All over the world, football academies are used as a benchmark for talent discovery. Most of the players that have represented this country at the international level came from the academies,” he said.

Fatusi also implored proprietors of the academies to desist from exploiting their players, saying that it was not good for the development of the sport.

He, therefore, urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to collaborate with the existing academies in the country.
