Abuja - The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Wednesday apologised over the erroneous fixtures it announced in the semi-final matches in the 2012 Federation Cup competition.
This was contained in a statement in Abuja, signed by the NFA’s Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire.
The statement quotes the NFA’s Director of Competitions, Mohammed Sanusi, as saying that the officer concerned had already been relieved of his duties and would also be accordingly sanctioned by the association.
``We apologise to all the teams and football stakeholders over the error made in those fixtures and we assure that this will never happen again.
``The officer made a mistake in the tabulation and that is unacceptable.
``We implore all the teams concerned, State FAs and other stakeholders to always contact the association’s Director of Competitions for all such details henceforth,” the statement said.
It announced that the correct fixtures will see Lobi Stars of Makurdi, which defeated Sharks FC of Port Harcourt in the quarter-final match played in Bauchi, take on Kano Pillars.
``For the avoidance of doubt, Heartland FC of Owerri, the reigning champions, will tackle Prime FC of Oshogbo at the Ilorin Township Stadium on Aug. 15.
``Lobi Stars will also confront Kano Pillars at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar on the same day,’’ the statement said.
It added that all four teams would converge at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos for the grand finale on Aug. 26, with the third-place match starting at 2: 00 p.m., while the final match would kick-off at 4: 00 p.m.
