Flying Eagles coach expects World Cup glory

27 April 2015, 14:04

Lagos - Nigeria Under-20 coach Manu Garba revealed he will accept nothing but success at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand after all their preparation has been geared towards winning the tournament.

The reigning African youth champions have previously had relative success in the global tournament, but have never won it.

The current squad has been dubbed the best Nigeria Under 20 team ever and Garba revealed the expectation is for the side to come back as champions.

"The only wish and expectation is to get to win the World Cup," he told SL10.ng.

"And it is either we win the World Cup or nothing for us," he said.

"The work we have done right from the U17's has been about this stage; the U20.

"This is a team that has done very well at both the U17 World Cup and most recently, the Africa Youth Championship.

"And these have been geared towards the U20 World Cup which is the ultimate," he added.

The side leaves for a pre-tournament training camp in Germany on Thursday where the final squad will be selected.
