Fowler backing Reds

12 December 2014, 09:00

Cape Town - Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler knows all about going to Old Trafford with Liverpool dismissed as a hopeless sideshow to the main event, but insists that Manchester United shouldn’t write them off just yet.

"I know they’ve been written off, and they’ll say themselves it hasn’t been good enough so far this season – there’s no escaping from that,” he told the Mirror.

"I’m amazed though that people have dismissed them already.

"United know more than anyone what Liverpool can do at Old Trafford – they’ve won there often enough in the last decade or so, and last season was one of the best performances in the Premier League. They could have won six or seven!

"Look, it’s the biggest cliché, but form goes out of the window in these games anyway. So saying they’re a pub team is missing the point. Liverpool will go there hurt by what’s gone on so far, and they’ll want to put it right.

"There’s no better place to do that, because if you can get a result – and it doesn’t matter how you do it – then it sets you up.

"It’s a massive game for both teams, no doubt. But United have hardly had anyone trembling, and any Liverpool team I know would be going there thinking they can win, no matter how they’ve played.”
