Ilorin - National U17 team, Golden Eaglets handed a 2-0
defeat to Kwara Football Academy (KFA) in a friendly played in Ilorin on Sunday.
Two goals in each half by Kehinde Ayinde and Orji Okonkwo
made the difference for the Golden Eaglets against the home team at the main bowl
of the Kwara stadium Complex in Ilorin.
Ayinde, who incidentally was recruited from KFA, scored
Eaglets' first goal in the 22nd minute when he glided the ball into the net
following poor clearance off a corner kick by Dauda Abdulganiyu. The second
goal in the 75th minute was also from a set piece when Okonkwo head a corner
kick straight into the far end of the post.
KFA complete with
Raymond Japheth , a member of the Golden Eaglets that won the last FIFA
Under-17 World Cup in the UEA, were initially in control after Premier
League's referee, Isaac Bolatito signaled
the start of the match.
Expectedly the partisan home fans urged on the KFA boys but
Eaglets were not undeterred. Yet it was the National Under-17 team that squandered
two successive free kicks in the 12th and 15th minute.
Both sides laboured for most of the second half until
Okonkwo provided some moments of brilliance .In the 47th minute, Orji's header
off an in swinger from Anas Muhammed ricocheted off the bar.
But he was back afterwards when he flashed a header into the
net following a well-taken corner kick by second half substitute, Paul Sabo
with barely 15 minutes left.
The Emmanuel Amuneke coached side held on to the score line
till the final whistle.
