Hull City target United star

14 August 2014, 10:31

Cape Town - Steve Bruce is ready to make a club record bid for a England international that plays for his former club Manchester United.

The Mirror report that Steve Bruce has been giving the green light to proceed with a bid for Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck, a product of the youth academy at Manchester United, is the target of a £14 million bid by Hull City.

Steve Bruce has identified the England international as his top priority of the transfer window after fears that Shane Long may leave the club.

Welbeck scored 10 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last term but struggles for a regular starting spot in the United line up with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie ahead of him.

Reports suggest that Hull will make the bid to test Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal's resolve regarding which players the Dutch coach wants in his side.

The Manchester born player has featured prominently in the English squad since his debut in March 2011. Welbeck has gone on to make 26 appearances for the national side while scoring 8 goals.
