London - Billed “the richest match in football”, the Championship play-off final between Crystal Palace and Watford at Wembley drew its fair share of celebrities, most notably, Sir Elton John and Eddie Izzard.
The Daily Mail’s website reports that John, former chairman of Watford, was seen cheering on his favourite club, but Kevin Phillips’ extra-time penalty brought an end to any celebrations or any of his hits being played over the public announcement system at the home of English football.
Izzard is an associate director at Palace and had the last laugh in the end, with his nails painted in the claret and blue of Palace, as he clapped with glee from the stands along with fellow comedian and Palace fan, Jo Brand.
Also seen at the £145 million showdown was outgoing Real Madrid boss, Jose Mourinho, who may be finalising a few minor details ahead of his much speculated move to Chelsea.
He may have also been running the rule over Watford's Nathaniel Chalobah, who is on loan from Chelsea.
