Abuja - Former Nigeria skipper Nwankwo Kanu has backed the junior Nigerian side to win the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the UAE this year.
Kanu, himself a winner of the 1993 edition, was present at Monday’s draw ceremony at Hotel Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi where the Golden Eaglets were drawn in a group alongside Mexico, Iraq and Sweden.
“I’m happy that FIFA noted my previous achievement at the Under-17 World Cup because we won it in 1993,” Kanu said. “But I would be happier if the present squad go all the way to win the championship again in the UAE.”
“We have to believe that these boys can do it, I mean winning the World Cup in the UAE,” Kanu said.
