San Jose - Head coach of Mexico, Leonardo Cuellar has
admitted his side could not match his Nigerian opponent in the last group D clash
of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Nigeria beat Mexico 3-0 to finish ahead of their North
American opponent at the top of Group D with goals from Rasheedat Ajibade,
Uchenna Kanu and Aminat Yakubu ensuring the incredible victory for the African
“It was a tough match because our opponents took a very
physical approach. It didn’t work out for us as we tried to match Nigeria
physically instead of performing as a team” Cuellar said.
“We need to look at why we didn’t manage to play our usual
game, and aim to do better against Japan,” he assured.
Nigeria and Mexico both qualified for the quarter final with
the African finishing top of the group.
